How many of you make an effort to eat raw food every day? After eating only 100% raw, vegan food for close to a year I felt like my body needed me to start incorporating some cooked food. However, the benefits of doing an extended raw food cleanse were incredible. I was revitalized, energized and felt like a true RAWK-star!

Going 100% raw opened my eyes up to so many amazing meals I could create. Salads were a staple of my diet and continue to be my ‘go-to’ lunch to supercharge my afternoons.

Many people tell me they get bored eating salad every day. I hear you. Keeping salads interesting was challenging at first … but then I started to play with them and discovered so many amazing ways to spice them up.

Here are 3 tips to keep your salad ‘RAWKsome’!:

1: Picking Your Base.

The worst thing you can do is have a salad with the same green spinach leaves every day. Get crazy with it! What is local and in season? Have you tried an arugula or watercress leaf salad? What about Radicchio? While kale and spinach are amazing choices, they can get boring really fast. Get adventurous with your salad base.

This is also a great tip for people suffering from leaky gut or other digestive issues. Eating the same foods every day can result in the further development of food intolerances and gut irritation. It’s always best to switch it up and rotate foods in every 3 days.

2: Spice It Up!

What textures do you like in your salad? I love throwing things like fennel, grapefruit, seaweeds (nori, wakame, arame, etc), nuts, and seeds into my salad. Whatever you like (or whatever is in your fridge). These are all the little extras that make your salad unique every day. One of my favorite fennel & watercress salad recipes is here. Try it out!

3: Delicious Dressings.

Let’s be honest, the dressing really does make the salad. Sometimes we can get overcomplicated though. Salads should be quick, simple and easy to throw together. One of my favorite combos for an instant salad dressing is avocado, lemon and sea salt. Just add those to your salad and use your hands (or salad toss tools if you’ve got ’em) to massage the salad together. The avocado blends with the other ingredients and creates a delicious creamy dressing.

There’s so many options for dressing and toppings! Add flax oil, olive oil, mango, blueberries .. anything you like. Have fun with it.

There’s no doubt that getting fibrous, leafy green salads into your diet on a daily basis is good for your health. We’ve all heard the benefits of including live (raw) food in our diet.
