With Valentine’s Day on the horizon we thought we would share our favorite herbs to bring the sexy back into your lover’s day.

Surprising your loved ones on Valentine’s Day with sweet treats is always fun. I like to play around in the kitchen using new and exciting herbs … and these labido boosting herbs are definitely the most fun to get messy with! 😉

So take them straight, infuse them into your cooking, or mix them into your raw chocolate recipe … however you take them is fine by me!

Aphrodisiac #1: MACA ROOT

Maca root powder

Maca root is amazing for spicing things up in the bedroom. Maca works with the body to balance hormones  (being an adaptogen it will raise the hormones that are too low and lower any that are too high). Maca is also known to increase energy and support the adrenals while increasing endurance and sexual performance.  Maca is often called “nature’s Viagra.” Recipe Link: Cocao Maca Cream Smoothie

Aphrodisiac #2: Vanilla Bean

vanilla powder

There’s something very sensual about the smell of vanilla. It’s sweet and innocent … but also sexy and extremely alluring.  The scent and flavor of vanilla has been used for centuries. In Spain, the combination of vanilla with chocolate is well known as an erotic duo. So weather you infuse vanilla into a chocolate treat or simply dab a little vanilla extract behind your ears you’re sure to draw attention this Valentine’s Day.

Aphrodisiac #3: Saffron

Part of saffron’s magic  is thought to be its ability to increase the feeling of “lust” via certain neurotransmitters that stimulate libido or erogenous zones.  Saffron was partially made famous by Cleopatra who would take baths in waters scented with saffron prior to making love. Sounds lovely, doesn’t it?

Aphrodisiac #4: Pine Pollen

pine pollen

Pine pollen tinctures and powders are an amazing aphrodisiac for both men and women. Pine Pollen contains testosterone and DHEA, and also helps to naturally increase glutathione and superoxide dismutase (antioxidants that support endocrine and immune function). Pine Pollen provides energy and supports your mental state so you can get down to business with whatever projects you take on (work or otherwise!). It is also well respected by body builders to increase stamina.

Aphrodisiac #5: Tongkat Ali

tongkat ali

The word “Tongkat Ali” is Malaysian and translates to “Ali’s walking stick”. This is partly because of the long trunk of the tree, and partly because of its use as an aphrodisiac. Tongkat Ali is known to increase a man’s sperm count, as well as raise libido in both men and women. It is also used by body builders to increase stamina and strength.

Bonus Aphrodisiac #6: L-arginine

L-arginine is not a herb but an amino acid that has numerous functions in the body. It has been used for erectile dysfunction and is often promoted as a Viagra alternative. L-arginine is used by the body to make the nitric oxide. Nitric Oxide is a compound in the body that relaxes blood vessels and muscles (which helps in boosting blood flow). Research has shown that a lack of arginine can reduce your body’s production of nitric oxide which can lead to poor sexual function.
