This is what is created when you ask an ex-bartender/waitress turned nutritionist to do a food demo…Lavender Grapefruit Mock-tini with Basil and Cracked Peppercorn.

Since being in school I have had a hard time falling in step with my old routines of drinking everyday at backyard BBQ’s & boat parties (see my ex-party girl story here). This alcohol free concoction is one way I allow myself to feel fun without the hangover! And I promise it looks just as good as it tastes!!!

Katie’s Fancy Non-Alcoholic Party Drink:

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cups Lavender Water (2 cups water & 1/8 Cup Lavender Blossoms)
  • 2 Cups Grapefruit Kombucha
  • 2 tsp Organic Maple Syrup
  • 2-4 Basil Leaves
  • 3-4 Peppercorns
  • Lavender Ice (opt.) (instructions below, literally just ice with lavender in it)

Method:

For The Lavender Ice:

  • Take lavender (I take fresh cut lavender from my plants at home) and remove blossoms.
  • Fill an ice-cube tray with water and add lavender blossoms to each cube of water.
  • Freeze for 2-3 hours or overnight.

For The Lavender Water:

  • Take lavender (I take fresh cut lavender from my plants at home) and remove blossoms.
  • Boil in a pot of water, covered to keep in the aroma and oils, for 10 minutes.
  • Set aside and let cool.

Creating The Drink:

  • Place all ingredients, except Kombucha (it will foam over or explode if shaken) in a mason jar with a tight fighting lid.
  • Add 3-4 lavender ice cubes (this is easy and adds amazing flavor).
  • Shake vigorously like a martini.
  • Add 2-3 cubes of lavender ice to individual glasses.
  • Pour mixture over top and finish with Kombucha.
  • Add 2-3 cubes of lavender ice to individual glasses.
  • Garnish with skewers of Basil and grapefruit wedges.

Why Kombucha?

Fermented foods are great for building a healthy gut flora and digestive system. Kombucha is fermented tea – a delicious, refreshing, effervescent beverage that you drink anytime – even party time! It is low in sugar – especially compared to juice and soda pops, and is totally kid friendly! It even makes for a great hangover fix if you do decide to indulge, but kombucha is THE drink I use when I want to have fun without the side efffects! It tastes divine! Bring on the booch!
